It Might Just Work

One thing my husband hates is when some people who just doesn’t seem to care about other people parks on and blocks his driveway.  It happened several times and he had to wait for that someone to come back and get his car.  There was one time we’ve asked the neighbors if it was their visitor but we had no luck in finding the driver.  We had to wait for an hour before we could get out of the driveway.  Grrr. I wonder if a driveway alarm would work.  Maybe it will cause it will sound when a car approaches the driveway.  If we put it near the gate then it can probably detect if someone is parked or a car has blocked the driveway.  I’ll have to tell hubs about this driveway alarm.

Stressed? Try these…

In stressful situations, levels of the hormone cortisol spikes, and that tells your body to go into fat-storing mode.  So instead of loading up on food when you’re stressed try rearranging your furniture. It’s a good stress buster and getting busy makes you forget about your cravings.  I also read that dimming the lights help.  So dim those pendant lights, softer lightings makes you feel more relaxed.  Bright lights make make you feel stressed because it makes the environment more stimulating.

Renovation

My sister is in the process of renovating her apartment.  She’s been meaning to do that for a long time but it was only when she switched to her new job that she found time.  So with the help of my brother, they are repainting and changing tiles.  She also wants to get rid of her old furnitures and is now shopping for contemporary furniture.  Her estimate is that they’ll finish job in a week’s time.  They have to!  My brother is going back to work next week, she’ll have to be on her own if they don’t.

Spring Cleaning

Furnaces are overworked during the winter season. A spring settles in, that’s the time when we start cleaning as the season gets warmer. Everything that needs replacing get replaced. That includes the everything, from the air condition filters to the furnace filters. At least by the time summer rolls in, I could just sit back and relax and enjoy the sunshine.

Cool Option

Summer brings heat and dust. Curtains seals in heat and is notorious at collecting dust which causes allergies. That’s based on my experience. Curtains are also hard to maintain and is expensive. Installing blinds instead is not only more practical but a cool option. It’s also easier to clean and is more durable. You can even match it to the design of specific rooms. At times like this, I’ll go for what is practical and easier on both my pocket and energy.

I Am Convinced

My daughter wants a new rug for her room. With her contemporary taste, we’ll definitely spend a long time choosing one for her room. She is very particular with the design and loves warm earth tones. Beige and ivory are favorite colors when it comes to rugs. Quite artistic and likes simple but unusual designs, her choice of contemporary rugs amazes anyone who enters her room. She loves sitting or lying on the floor that is why a rug is a must for her. This time around, she wants a rug with crisscrossing lines. So far, we’ve gone over dozens of designs and will be going to another shop to check out their designs.

I can see why she likes contemporary designs. It easily blends with her room and her personality. In fact, I may just get several rugs for the den, my son’s room as well as one for our bedroom. Our den definitely needs one. I wouldn’t be a den if we can’t lounge around on the floor while watching a movie. I am now convinced, a rug is as cozy as a couch. Cleaning it will not be a burden considering the relaxation we’ll all get from a rug. So instead of one, we’ll now be buying four.

I’m sure we’ll spend countless hours bonding.

Always Have Fruit On Hand

I don’t know about you but I like frozen fruits.  I do love the fresh ones but frozen fruits are as healthy as fresh.  And now that it’s summer and there’s so much fruit available, I’m thinking of freezing some to save later in the year, when it’s hard to find good produce.  I brought home lots of fruits from the market but first I will have to go over this western general auto insurance review that hubs asked me to check before I can start cutting the fruits.

Fruits like grapes, berries, pineapple, mangoes, bananas, kiwifruits, watermelon and peaches are great for freezing in plastic bags.  Grapes and berries need to be washed and dried before freezing whole.  Fruit with edible skin, like peaches, should be washed, pitted and cut into chunks to freeze since they’ll be hard to cut later on.  And for fruit with inedible skin like pineapple, peel before cutting into chunks and freezing.  I read that it takes about a year for freezer burn to set in, so your frozen fruits should last through the end of the year.  While grapes can be enjoyed frozen, most other fruits can’t, so what I do is blend them into smoothies, add them to fruit salads or use for baking.

Just Right On Time

I guess I’ve been putting it off for too long now, but the two bathrooms in the house desperately need an overhaul. Not a total makeover though but some changes and additional fixtures. Some of the old fixtures have seen better days and I want to reorganize them  so both bathrooms have more space. Hubs want to install a separate shower and bathtub for the second floor toilet and bath, and a new vanity set for the bathroom in the first floor. I am beginning to like the idea as I’ve seen the new models from the web. We are still checking out some items that would match the theme of our two Bathrooms.

I’m thinking of retro-modern design with black fixtures as against the white background. The combination will be perfect and so much according to my liking. The shower and bath will be replaced too as well as the toilet fixtures and basin. I feel lucky to be doing this project now because everything is up on sale. Had I decided to do it a few months back, the cost would have been doubled. Besides, it was not a very good idea to start the project during the holidays when everyone was so busy. Now is the perfect time and soon I will have two new-looking bathrooms for less.
