  • Don’t Talk To Strangers

    Posted on January 30, 2010 @ 12:00 pm

    strangers

We always tell our kids not to talk to strangers, but do they actually know who a stranger is?  Surely, they’ll answer it is someone he doesn’t know, but sometimes it won’t be a stranger who will lure your child.  It could be someone he’s already familiar with.  So instead of reminding kids “Don’t talk to strangers,” it’s more apt to teach them to watch out for dangerous adult behaviors.  Here are some of them.

    *  When an adult or older kid offers him anything without asking your permission – candies, pets, treats, photographs, rides on bikes or motorcycles, etc.

    *  When an adult or older kid asks for his help without asking your permission such as approaching a car to give directions, picking something up from an injured person, doing yard work, mailing a letter, looking for a lost pet, etc.

    *  When an adult or older kids asks him to keep a secret.

    *  When an adult or older kid touches his private parts or vice versa or somebody else’s.

Carefully explain these pointers to your child.  The above-mentioned acts are signs for kids to step back, yell and run away.  Attracting attention will help in bringing someone to his rescue.

    Choosing Your Kid’s Best Friend

    Posted on January 29, 2010 @ 7:25 pm

    dogs

Oh, your kids are dog crazy, but with their allergies, you think they are barking up the wrong tree.  Don’t let allergies stop you from finding a four-legged pet for your kids.  Studies have shown that they are actually good for your kids.  I recently posted an article about it.  Let me quote a paragraph from that article.

Did you know that your dog’s slobber and shedding fur may be a blessing in disguise?  Studies show that kids living in households with dogs have a reduced risk of developing allergies.  The germs dogs carry boost our children’s developing immune system, making them less sensitive to allergens.

So you see, big or small, dogs are exceptionally good with children.  But choosing the right puppy for you and your family is a very important decision that should be well thought out and researched.  You may also get help from the dog breed selector.  They can give you a guide on selecting the right breed, the right temperament type, and the right activity level for your family.  The characteristics of each type of dog are carefully explained on the website so you’ll know if it’s family-friendly and the possible pet peeves.  Owning the right breed of dog can bring a wonderful experience to your child’s life.

    Now he’s talking!

    Posted on @ 6:26 pm

I mentioned earlier that my brother-in-law was very serious on getting fit. Hubs just got a call from him telling him that he found some great deals and he’s already ordered for several fitness equipment. They are scheduled to arrive next week. I can’t believe my ears when I heard the excitement on hubs’ voice. He’s not so keen on losing weight so I was really surprised. I am so glad BIL was able to talk some sense to him.

    A Home Gym? Seriously?

    Posted on @ 6:25 pm

BIL is quite serious about getting fit. And once he sets his mind on it, he will do it for sure.  He is not overweight but would like to work on his muscles. How serious is he? I would say very because he is checking out home gyms from the internet and comparing prices. Although he can afford it, a little discount, of course, would be good.

I just hope that his enthusiasm will also encourage my husband to workout. He needs it more than my BIL.

    They’re Coming Home

    Posted on @ 6:22 pm

Florida seems to be a very popular vacation spot in the US. I’ve seen a lot of my blogger friends in the US writing about destin vacation rentals. My niece and nephew are visiting here on their spring break, but before that, they will fly to Florida first to visit their mom and spend a few days at one of these vacation rental hot spots.  I heard that the place is really beautiful and captivating.  I want to go there someday.

    Stubborn Acne

    Posted on @ 12:00 am

Why exactly do some people get acne and why some people don’t?  This is a question that puzzled me ever since I was young, and I used to say “That is just not fair!.”  Just like most teenagers, I had my fair share of acne, the scars can prove it.  But my sister and my brother had flawless skin.  I’m the only one in the family who actually experienced it.  🙁

According to experts, the reason is not fully known. They say, it is known to be partly hereditary and is most common during adolescence. During my teens, I heard from my lola (grandmother) that a good acne treatment is to wash my face often to help clear up my face. It was only later that I’ve known that frequent washing is far from preventing acne.  I have read that doing so may only cause them to get clogged and irritate the pores.   Visiting my dermatologist once a week was an ordeal I had to go through, oh yes it was painful!

But I’m glad those days are over and I’m thankful that I never had them again.  At least the only concern I have now are the scars, and I know a good acne scar treatment will do the trick.  I know of some people who gets adult acne when they are too stressed, I’m glad I am way past this.

    Getting Enough zzzzs

    Posted on January 22, 2010 @ 1:53 am

You know how important getting enough sleep for your child is.  It helps him function well the next day.  Sleep is just as important as food because it is essential for proper mind and body development.  But here’s another reason why you should tuck him in on time.  A good night’s sleep may help your kid stay trim as an adult.  According to studies, children ages five to eleven who sleeps less than 11 hours nightly are more likely to be obese adults than children who get more zzzs.  So make sure your kids get enough sleep to keep obesity at bay.  🙂

    Hubs’ Fave

    Posted on @ 1:44 am

Hubs can’t kick his smoking habit but I can see that he’s trying.  He’s not really a heavy smoker and lately has changed his smoking preference.  He now prefers to smoke a cigar. When we went to the mall last week, he asked if we could pass by the cigar store to buy some.  So we did and he bought a box of Don Tomas.  I’m not really familiar with the brands but he says it’s one of his favorites, so I guess I shouldn’t forget the name.

    Done and Ready

    Posted on @ 1:29 am

Hubs’ got his  insurance quote yesterday and he reminded me to prepare the money for his car’s annual registration next week.  Trying to avoid the early Monday morning rush at the bank, I decided to go yesterday.   I hate going to banks on the first day of the week, it is so full, it takes hours just to withdraw or deposit your money.  At least now that it’s all done and ready, I’ can relax and enjoy the weekend.  🙂
