  • Backseat Full of Kids

    Posted on May 30, 2009 @ 12:56 am

“Drive the car” is the best parenting advice I’ve ever receieved.  They say, there is nothing like a backseat full of chattering kids (of any age) to provide valuable, sometimes startling insights into their daily lives, interests, concerns, hopes and dreams.  You don’t even have to ask for any directions, the answers and insights will come.  And the best thing is, you’ll get to know your kids better and know their friends as well, giving you a bigger, more helpful picture of the scope of their lives.

    Taking Care of Kids’ Teeth

    Posted on May 24, 2009 @ 2:52 am

Frequent consumption of fruit juice and soda, which have low pH levels that wear away enamel may cause dental erosion (or the loss of protective tooth enamel).  Once the damage is done, it can weaken the teeth’s structure and make them overly sensitive.  You know how costly it is to restore teeth with veneers and crowns.  And these replacements never function as well as the originals.

So while your kids are young, encourage them to drink water when they’re thirsty, and allow soda and juice only during mealtimes to reduce their overall consumption.  And when they sip those potentially harmful drinks, have them do so with straws to minimize exposure.

    Welcome Joaquin!

    Posted on @ 2:39 am

My cousin Michelle gave birth to  a baby boy, last month (April 15). They named him Joaquin.  I talked to her last night and she told me that I’m going to be his godmother.  I’m really excited, it has been a long time since we had a baby in the family.  I already found some really cute designer baby clothes for him.

Lou Lou’s Corner is a specialty boutique  that offers the latest fashion trends and accessories for babies. They have the widest collection of clothing, undergarments, unique gifts, jellycat soft toys, shoes , nightwear, casual wear, formal dresses, accessories and a whole lot more.

But after seeing the site’s collection, I am now having second thoughts about the designer clothes.  I think it would be more appropriate if I give him the blue eco-friendly night gown from Barefoot Dreams.  I’m sure he’ll be using it more than the designer clothes.

So what do you think?  Should I get him the night gown or the designer clothes?

    Science in Information Security

    Posted on @ 3:06 am

Hackers are computer experts who try to breach computer security usually for fun or as a challenge. What I really can’t understand is why these computer geniuses waste enormous amounts of time trying to breach email servers, security networks and web servers when they can make use of their intelligence in more useful ways? Private individuals should not really be bothered by hackers because they are the most unlikely target, it’s the big companies and government offices they are after.

Companies usually protect their IT Security by using a competent virus protection program, as most of these programs will stop trojans and backdoors from getting through their systems. But that should not be enough, companies and authorities should not rely on this alone if they don’t want important information to be stolen. Remember, these hackers are seasoned criminals and they can easily penetrate your programs and get access to all your information. Secure procedures are not enough to stop them.

Lewis University is offering online countermeasures classes and a degree on masters information security to educate, introduce and help you gain knowledge on how to tighten your IT Security. Be an expert and keep your sensitive information out of the prying eyes of these seasoned criminals. Visit their website to know more about Information Security.

    Hubs Needs a New Bike

    Posted on @ 1:00 am

With our present state of economy and the continuous rise in our cost of living, taking your car on short trips is impractical.   Hubs would rather take his bike than spend on gas and parking fees.  In fact, he’s been using his bicycle more often than his car.  But his bike is kinda old and I think it’s about time he lets it retire. He’s been using it for more than ten years.  We have saved enough for a new one and though he has some brands in mind, he still have not decided which one to choose.

He’s still thinking whether to get a Holstar, Klein or Gitane.  Quality is of course, his main concern. He wouldn’t want to replace his trusty Merlin by a brand not worthy of his respect. He found a site which has everything he is looking for.  They showcase the famous bicycle brands he has in mind.

Now the only thing he has to do is decide on whether he would be getting   a mountain bike or a road bike this time.  I do hope he gets the mountain bike because he’s more attuned with it.
