    The Rivalry

    Posted on October 26, 2008 @ 2:55 pm

Sibling rivalry is very common among kids and although my kids have a big age difference [20 and 12], somehow, I can still sense a hint of rivalry.  And if I can sense it with my kids, what more with closed-aged kids?

Don’t freak out when your kids are tormenting each other, here are some suggestions I found that can help you teach them to cooperate.

Never compare.  Nothing causes more damage to your kids than comparing academic or extracurricular achievements.  Give an honest and specific feedback to each of your children about their individual strengths and skills each one needs to strive for.  Comparing accomplishments to motivate the other is a no-no.

Sharing a room may help too.  Some kids divide their space with tape and argue about things like turning out the lights or closing the door, but these are just common conflicts that may teach them eventually to compromise and cooperate.  They may even grow close together because you allow them to bond during nighttime talks.

When your kids argue, intervene.  Don’t ever think that it’s better for your children to work it out especially if they get physical.  Teach them cooperation and conflict resolution skills like taking turns.

Don’t force an angry child to apologize, it will only produce an insincere apology.  Let him cool down first, then talk to him about how to make amends for hurting someone’s feelings by doing something good like writing his sister a nice note or helping her put away her toys.

Learn to predict, prevent and prepare.  If they fight or argue every time they start their homework or play a game, review your expectations for their behavior with them ahead of time and encourage them to use their conflict resolution skills.

    The Coolest Shades

    Posted on @ 2:31 pm

Too much exposure to the sun does not only hurt our skin but our eyes as well.  Since hubs had his lasik surgery 12 years ago, he’s been more careful with his eyes.  He avoids getting out when the sun is scorching hot.  But if he really needs to go out, he makes sure he’s wearing his Wayfarer sunglasses.  It’s his favorite and it’s been with him for years.  I’ve given him a lot of sunglasses but he just loves using the vintage.

    The Right Tool

    Posted on @ 2:18 pm

Don’t be fooled by “immitations”.  There are a lot of cheap air tool products out there but if you sum it up, you end up paying more.  Hubs recently bought a cordless power tool, he got it really cheap but it didn’t last long.  He ended up buying a new one.  For quality air tools, I would suggest you get the branded ones.  They may be a bit expensive than the ones made in “C”, but you’ll definitely get your money’s worth.

    Push Button

    Posted on October 24, 2008 @ 5:41 am

Sometimes managing a home feels like I’m trying to run a circus as everyone dash every which way.  Cleaning the house on weekends is next to impossible as each “clown” lazily lounges in the living room.  It’s one of those days that I would wish I had a remote control that controls everyone’s behavior.  It would be nice to see everyone following you with just a push of a button.  lol

    Me Time

    Posted on @ 5:34 am

It’s been a while since I’ve been to the mall and I miss it.  I haven’t been going out since one of my store helpers left, but tomorrow I have a day out.  I’ll be bringing my son to the mall which gives me time to go around and do some shopping.  He’ll be watching High School Musical with some friends.  I’m really excited and If I still have time, I’ll drop by my friend’s spa.  At least that’ll give me time to  relax and keep my mind off work and worries about bills, passport renewal, etc.

    Being Safe

    Posted on @ 5:12 am

Do you have the desire to make sure you can defend yourself when placed in life or death situation? I am sure you do.  The chance of getting attacked on the street is rather high and it is something you can never predict.  You’ll never know when a bunch of drunken teenagers or gangsters will attack so you better be at least prepared for it.  There are many self defense products that can help save your life.  I always make sure I have my pepper spray whenever I leave the house.  Be safe and know how to defend yourself and your family properly.  Click on the link to know more of these products.

    A Hip Home Office

    Posted on @ 8:04 am

Hubs and I are thinking of putting up a home office so our bedroom would be free of computers, office supplies and organizers.  We’re thinking of converting the spare room into one.  We usually spend long hours working together so I want it decorated with the colors we both like but majority of the walls will be painted in beige.  We’re still on the planning stage so I don’t have much to tell but one thing is sure though, it’s going to be functional and clutter-free.

    Tired? Relax…

    Posted on @ 5:43 am

After a tiring day, here’s a great and easy way to relax your body.  Dip your hands up to your wrists into a bowl of warm water and massage for two minutes.  You will hit pressure points and revive your body as well to help you last longer.  This is especially great for working moms who usually come home tired and still need to prepare supper and help the kids with their homework.
