Did you know that negative attitude and negative thinking may be passed along by a gene?  According to research, if you are a constant worrier and you tend to worry about things easily our kids may get this attitude too.  To overcome the tendency to get stuck in negative thinking, try writing down your concerns then make a list of actions you could take to deal with them.  According to the article, seeing that our problems are manageable helps defuse the stress of daily living.

    When You Are Angry…

    Posted on August 25, 2008 @ 2:27 am

Do you snap at other easily? Do you feel impatient and interrupt other people while they’re talking? Do you become belligerent and agitated?

According to personality stress tests researchers have conducted, if you’re any of the above, you are highly vulnerable to the ill effects of stress particularly high blood pressure. While releasing aggressive energy helps soothe you and feel better afterwards, they recommend finding a healthy and constructive way to blow off stream. Engaging in competitive sports allows you to physically release anger while focusing your mind on the activity. Keeping a pet also defuses anger and stress. Watching fish swim in a tank makes you feel calm, I’ve tried it many times and it really works. Or you can simply pet your cat/dog or feed your birds. All these can help reduce your stress and anxiety levels, your blood pressure and your incidence of heart attacks. Plus, it can help you live longer.

We need friends for many reasons,
    all throughout the season.
We need friends to comfort us
    when we are sad,
and to have fun with us when we are glad.

We need friends to give us good advice,
We need someone we can count on,
    and treat us nice.

We need friends to remember us
    one we have passed
sharing memories that will always last.

    Spread the poem of friendship.

    Trapped!

    Posted on August 22, 2008 @ 2:05 am

I know what you’re thinking, it’s cruelty.  But what am I supposed to do?  This little pest along with its brothers, sisters, parents and maybe cousins are eating up the contents of my store.  Name it, instant noodles, chips, cooking oil, soap bars and many more.  Their latest deed… the wire of my ice cream freezer!  Good thing it didn’t cause fire but all the ice cream melted, grrr.  I tried rat poison by sprinkling it on food but they seem to know it, the food was left untouched.  The fly paper worked and so far we had 3 of them trapped, but God knows how long.  Hubby has told me a lot of times before that I should call on pest control but I was being frugal.  Now he’s giving me the “I told you so” look.

    Can You Live Without It?

    Posted on August 19, 2008 @ 2:43 am

Is there a fashion accessory you just can’t live without? I’m really not much into accessories but I just can’t go without headbands. I have thick and wavy hair and I got tired of blow drying everyday. Headbands are great and so useful to me because I’ll just put it on and I’m done.

How about you? Is there something that you just can’t live without?

    Make Him Love Books

    Posted on August 16, 2008 @ 2:14 am

In this age of computers and video games, most kids do not take time to read books anymore. Reading is the foundation of our kids’ success in school and it is our duty as parents to help them become not necessarily a bookworm but a better and skilled reader.

While my daughter loves to read, my son is the opposite. So, to encourage him to read more, hubby and I make it a point to pass by the bookstore every time we go out. I let him scan the shelves for titles he might be interested in. I even subscribed him to kids’ magazines like K-zone and Archie Comics. I’m glad this strategy is working and he seems to enjoy them.

How about you? Do your kids love to read or they are just like my son?

    Stop and Watch

    Posted on August 11, 2008 @ 3:31 am

Here’s another touching story that I hope you’d take time to watch. The video below only takes about 4 minutes and 30 seconds and it shows how much a father would do to show his son how much he loves him. It almost made me cry…

A son asked his father, ‘Dad, will you take part in a marathon with me?’ The father who, despite having a heart condition, says ‘Yes’. They went on to complete the marathon together. Father and son went on to join other marathons, the father always saying ‘Yes’ to his son’s request of going through the race together.

One day, the son asked his father, ‘Dad, let’s join the Ironman together’ to which, his father said ‘Yes’. For those who don’t know, Ironman is the toughest triathlon ever. The race encompasses three endurance events of a 2.4-mile ocean swim, followed by a 112-mile bike ride and ending with a 26.2-mile marathon along the coast off the BigIsland. Father and son went on to complete the race together.

    “LQ”

    Posted on August 8, 2008 @ 4:07 am

We all know that stressful marriages are unhealthy, and based on studies, those regular bickerings can lead to coronary heart disease and depression.  Couples can prevent these health problems by improving communication, according to Woman’s Day Magazine.

Whenever there is an argument, you should try to focus on the present.  Don’t dig up old issues as it will only aggravate the situation.  Instead, try to work out how things can be done differently going forward and don’t dwell on why they were not done that way before.

It will also be wise not to point out your husband’s/partner’s faults.  Instead, tell him what you like and what you don’t like without dragging his character into it.

Never storm out during a fight.  It will not help at all.  But a brief break to calm down and get in control is not a bad idea.  It is always good to sort things out when your heads are cool.

Marriage is not just a commitment, it’s a process that you both have to keep working on.  You may be fuming mad on an issue but no matter how angry you are, think about this… “I still love you.”  trust me, it always works. 😉
